At Team5pm, we think it is very important that you feel the space to bring feelings of grief to the workplace and, if you feel comfortable doing so, discuss them. You are always welcome to have a conversation with your manager, Team People & Culture, and your other colleagues. Together with you, we will look at how we can make the loss more bearable, in a way that feels appropriate and pleasant for you. This can also be done outside of Team5pm if you prefer, through OpenUp.
After the passing At Team5pm we believe that there should be enough time and space throughout the process to arrange things and deal with the grieving process. Your well-being is our number one priority. Research shows that 26% of employees say afterwards that they returned to work too soon after the death. Therefore, we will always meet with you first to sense when you are able to discuss your work. We feel it is important that you consider with your manager how you would like to resume your work.
For example, sometimes an extra hour of sleep when you are sleeping poorly or a longer break in the afternoon to take a walk outside does wonders. Discuss what feels good with your manager. Together you can look at the possibilities.
You can also discuss with your manager what information may be shared within the organisation. In addition, your manager can maintain contact with the client and/or immediate colleagues. This allows you to focus on matters that need to be arranged at that time and to say goodbye to your loved one.
The period afterwards It is well known that grieving is not just for the first period. Sometimes after a while, things get harder than at the beginning and sometimes grief flares up again. So it is important to keep paying attention to this topic during meetings with your manager, when necessary. This way you can reflect on the grieving process together.
